‘The Importance of Being Earnest’ - 2014

Being Pigs Fly’s first production, ‘The Importance of Being Earnest’ was crucial to get right. The team was comprised of amateur, professional and semi-retired creative professionals. The challenge was to make the first production a success, both financially and artistically, so the newly found theatre company would be able to survive. With enormous drive and passion, the show was a huge success! In addition to just producing a show every year, it was decided that Pigs Fly should donate a portion of the opening night box office takings to a local charity. For ‘Earnest’, this would be The Southern Highlands Hospice, where $1500 was raised. The show went on to earn 7 Canberra Area Theatre (CAT) award nominations and a win for Best Actor (David Preston). This would be the start of a wonderful journey for this fledgling theatre company, and certainly lived up to its catchcry that “… life is full of possibilities!”
